# Lucky Lemons — God Speaks Through His Holy Spirit

## FROZEN v1.4 — September 20, 2026

**Passage:** 1 Corinthians 2:6–16
**LifeWay Point:** The Holy Spirit guides us in knowing His will.
**Big Idea:** **God did not give you a better guess. He gave you His Spirit.**
**One thing:** **Ask Him first.**
**Core target:** **34:15 plus normal transitions.**

## Why v1.4 exists

This lesson overlaps 1 Corinthians 2:9–16 from the July 26 “Wisdom from God” lesson. v1.2 removed the recycled July illustrations and signature lines and rebuilt the lesson around a fresh Corinth/Spirit angle. v1.3 added the rights-clear Julian Basilica photograph, the deliberate 30-second QUIET timer, and the traced Learn. Love. Live. close. v1.4 adds one spoken, labeled callback at OBEY so the retained application “Ask Him first” is acknowledged as intentional rather than accidental.

## Version history

- **v1.4:** Adds the labeled callback to the July 26 lesson on this same passage. “Ask Him first” is retained deliberately as a callback rather than removed, because Paul supplies a new reason for it this week. Rule 13 is satisfied by explicit acknowledgment in the room rather than by avoidance.
- **v1.3:** Adds the Julian Basilica photograph, deliberate QUIET timer, and traced Learn. Love. Live. close.
- **v1.2:** Removes recycled July 26 illustrations and signature lines and rebuilds around a fresh Corinth/Spirit angle.

## Five-layer covenant audit

### 1. Luke Lens — SEE it
Section 1 puts the room in Roman Corinth’s forum before explaining “rulers of this age.” The Julian Basilica at the east end of the forum housed a major imperial-cult shrine and large statues of the Julio-Claudian family. The room sees a city that knew how to monumentalize rulers before hearing Paul call the crucified Jesus “the Lord of glory.”

### 2. Scholarship / Dig Deeper — UNDERSTAND it
One historical discovery, not trivia: the Julian Basilica. Honest limit stays on the same card: Paul does not identify that building as the referent of “rulers of this age,” and archaeology does not settle the debated interpretation. Canonical/literary discovery: Paul quotes Isaiah 40:13 on the final teaching card, and both teacher and student can open the verse there.

### 3. Jim Rohn Lens — REMEMBER it
Sticky lines:
- **God did not give you a better guess. He gave you His Spirit.**
- **Confidence is not the same thing as truth.**
- **You cannot infer your way into the mind of God. God has to reveal.**
- **Received, not achieved.**
- **This is not a test-score verse. It is a source verse.**

### 4. Charles Stanley Check — OBEY it
Three Monday Tests remain. The one act is concrete: **Ask Him first.** The application is sharpened by surrender: open the Word, ask the Spirit for understanding, and be willing for the answer to be yes, no, or wait. Verified prep source: Charles Stanley, “The Holy Spirit: Our Guide,” In Touch Ministries (https://www.intouch.org/watch/sermons/the-holy-spirit-our-guide). No Stanley quotation is put in Bobby’s mouth.

### 5. Bobby Gaines Rule — TRUST the messenger
Conversational farmer-plus-PhD voice, no invented Bobby story, no recycled courthouse story. The history is qualified honestly. The class is never asked to admire the teacher. Christ and the passage stay bigger.

## Card spine and locked teaching content

1. **COVER** — God Speaks Through His Holy Spirit. Big Idea: “God did not give you a better guess. He gave you His Spirit.”
2. **OPEN** — How many voices get a vote? Continuity: last Sunday the Book had your name on it; this Sunday the Author did not leave you alone with the letter.
3. **BML / In Focus** — Word and Spirit stay together. Strong feelings are not self-authenticating revelation.
4. **READ 1** — 1 Corinthians 2:6–8 ESV.
5. **TEACH 1** — Julian Basilica / imperial family statues / “Lord of glory.” Show a real rights-clear photograph of the basilica ruins on both teacher and student surfaces; provenance stays visible. Honest limit stays attached. Sticky line: “Corinth knew how to make rulers look glorious. Paul puts glory on the crucified Christ.”
6. **MON 1** — “Confidence is not the same thing as truth.”
7. **READ 2** — 1 Corinthians 2:9–11 ESV.
8. **TEACH 2** — Verse 10 is the payoff: God revealed. Use Paul’s own mind analogy; no insider trading. Sticky line: “You cannot infer your way into the mind of God. God has to reveal.”
9. **POLL** — Where do you usually go first when a hard decision hits?
10. **MON 2** — Do not confuse more voices with more wisdom.
11. **READ 3** — 1 Corinthians 2:12–16 ESV.
12. **TEACH 3** — Gift verbs: received, from God, freely given. “Received, not achieved.” Verse 14 is source, not IQ.
13. **DISC** — “Have you already decided what answer you want, or are you genuinely willing for God to tell you no?” Privacy protected.
14. **MON 3** — Ask Him first. Yes, no, or wait.
15. **TEACH 4** — Isaiah 40:13 ESV is immediately available on both surfaces. Paul’s “mind of Christ” does not make every hunch revelation. Big Idea returns.
16. **QUIET** — “Where have I already decided what I want God to say?” Protected. Teacher taps Start to begin the actual 30-second countdown; the deck visibly signals when the silence is complete.
17. **OBEY** — Intentional July 26 callback spoken first: “Some of you may remember where we landed the last time we were in this passage back on July 26: Ask Him first. We are landing there again, but for a different reason. This time Paul is showing us why. God did not leave us with a better guess. He gave us His Spirit.” Then: one decision. Open Word. Ask Spirit. Surrender answer. Protected.
18. **PRAY** — Thank God He did not leave us guessing; ask for humility and surrender. Protected.
19. **CLOSE** — Learn. Love. Live. explicitly retraces the day: LEARN points back to Corinth and revelation, LOVE points back to Isaiah/Christ and God choosing to make Himself known, LIVE points back to the poll/Monday Tests/quiet moment and the one response: Ask Him first.
20. **TEACHER AAR ONLY** — Timer freezes automatically on entry; elapsed time is saved into AAR; footer navigation is disabled on the AAR so it cannot be skipped accidentally.

## Scripture drawer

**Isaiah 40:13 (ESV):** “Who has measured the Spirit of the LORD, or what man shows him his counsel?”

## Functional locks

- Teacher AAR is last and is a deliberate stop. Entering it freezes and stores lesson elapsed time.
- Fixed-duration QUIET moments start only on Bobby’s tap and signal completion.
- Historical/site visuals are real and rights-clear when available; no generated archaeology.
- Student **Done** returns to https://lucky-lemons-library.pages.dev/.
- Teacher Library return remains visible.
- QUIET, OBEY, PRAY remain protected.
- The July 26 overlap is acknowledged aloud on OBEY before “Ask Him first”; no retired July illustration or sticky line is reopened.
- Prayer & Care, Praise, profile, previous lessons, and prior saved-note keys are not modified by this lesson revision.
